Evilon - Leviathan

Wormholedeath Records

Release: September 28, 2018

Evilon was created in 2015 by Kenneth Evstrand and Jonny Sjödin. In the beginning the

genre was melodic death metal, in the style of At The Gates, Amon Amarth and In Flames. During 2016 the music evolved and is now inspired by celtic and Nordic folk with a lot of heavy riffs and capturing melodies. During the winter of 2016 Evilon recorded its first EP called "Shores Of Evilon". It contained five songs written in 2016. The EP was recorded independently by Evilon and it was mixed and mastered by Big Balls Productions. It was then released in January 2017 on Spotify, Itunes, Google Play, Youtube and Soundcloud.

In June 2017, the recordings for a full length album began. Now, one year later "Leviathan" is finished. The album contains ten new songs, full of great melodies, awesome vocals and heavy riffs! In February 2018 Evilon signed a worldwide distribution contract with the Italian record label Wormholedeath Records for the release of the album ‘’Leviathan’’. The album was released the 28th of September in Europe, USA and Japan.

I really enjoyed listening to Evilon’s new record, but somehow the music sounds a bit shallow and empty. This could have easily been fixed by putting the volume of the bass a bit higher in the mix. Even though Evilon does not describe themselves as melodic death metal anymore, I’d say they still definitely sound melodeath to me. And as you all know, I like melodeath. For a good melodeath band or album you can wake me up at night!

Kenneth Evstrand - Guitar/Choir

Jonny Sjödin - Guitar/Choir

Björn Wildjärn - Bass/Choir/Lead-Clean Vocals

Joel Sundell - Lead-Growling Vocals

Anders Hagen - Drums

But can you wake me up in the middle of the night for Evilon’s new record? I don’t know, that’s your call. ‘’Leviathan’’ scores somewhat in the middle for me, a six out of 10.
