Lahmia - Resilience

Scarlet Records

Release: January 18, 2019

Melodic Death Metal band Lahmia are going to release their second, long awaited album ‘Resilience’ on Scarlet Records. “Resilience” is the ability of an individual to face and overcome a traumatic event and in fact the whole album is an ambitious concept that finds its origins in the crisis of values of the present day, an album aims to describe the newfound "second life" of the band after the difficult years that followed the debut ‘Into The Abyss’, one of the death metal revelations of 2012.

From a musical point of view, ‘Resilience’ picks up were its predecessor left off and shifts the bar in every possible way, mixing the most aggressive guitar riffs with incredible melodies and top notch musicianship. Variety has always been the band’s trademark and this new album makes no exception. ‘Resilience’ has been produced by Giuseppe Orlando at OuterSound Studios in Rome, Italy, mastered by Mika Jussila and features a 11-minute long epic suite that is definitely not common in the genre.

Elegy For A Dying Sun
Her Frantic Call
Divide Et Impera
The Frayed Lines Of Time
Void Of Humiliation
The Age Of Treason
Existential Vastness

“Resilience’’ is a nice album, but I won’t put it on again for another time. There are no real original sounds, or anything else that sets Lahmia apart from other melodic death metal bands. I feel kind of sorry to say that but it is the truth. I have heard so, so many death metal bands and a lot of them have put their own spin to the vocals and effects, but there is nothing in this music that I can recognise as Lahmia, you know?

However, ‘’The Age Of Treason’’ is one of the longest pieces I have seen in death metal. I did really enjoy this track, and ‘’Her Frantic Call’’ as well. Unfortunately, all other songs are a bit bland to me.

Rating: 6/10
